Faro Airport Reaches New Heights

The project aims to replace the entire roof of Faro Airport. It is expected to be completed in April 2024.

BLOCOTELHA, in consortium with the construction company Casais, has been selected for the construction of the new roof at Faro Airport, estimated to be completed in April 2024. The Porto de Mós-based construction company leads the project, awarded at a value of 16 million euros for a period of 24 months. Underway since April of the previous year, the work is being carried out during nighttime, while keeping the terminal fully operational.

Having completed the first phase of the project, which involved reinforcing the structure of the existing roof, adapting and/or replacing installations and equipment necessary for the placement of BLOCOTELHA’s cladding system, the assembly phase of the new roof is now commencing. This new roof will consist of 370 tons of metal structures, produced at the company’s industrial facility in Porto de Mós.

“As this is considered a rehabilitation project, there was a need to meticulously study the particular solutions for the project. We responded to this challenge with an innovative solution that combines unique characteristics in terms of environment, comfort, and durability”

Erico Ferraria, Chief Commercial Officer at BLOCOTELHA.

The SKINZIP® construction system was BLOCOTELHA’s response to the challenge presented. This solution is characterized by being a modern construction system, adaptable to any project, usually associated with other types of materials, providing architectural solutions enriched by the wide range of shapes it allows, thanks to its versatility. The thin materials allow for extremely lightweight coverings, enabling cost savings in construction and a reduction in energy costs.

“The continuous development of solutions, design of new components, and construction systems are intrinsic concepts to the solution presented for this project. The SKINZIP® system allows us to meet the growing market demand associated with new materials and new construction technologies,” adds Erico Ferraria.

The project also includes safety solutions for the roof, ranging from safety fences to walls between alignments, as well as mobility solutions.

It is noteworthy that BLOCOTELHA has accumulated vast experience in airport projects: South Terminal of Orly Airport (France), Ivato International Airport (Madagascar), Porto Airport, Beja Airport, North Terminal and Cargo Terminal of Lisbon Airport, are some of the projects included in BLOCOTELHA’s portfolio.
